What's On

The Sovereign Hotel is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

QAHC is holding a Gay Men’s Retreat on Magnetic Island in April. We’ve booked the whole of the Arcadia Beach Guesthouse to give us a private space to unwind, explore some of the health issues specific to gay men in a safe environment, enjoy good food and make friends with other gay men from  the area. The retreat will run from the late afternoon of Friday 16th April to the afternoon of Sunday 18th. Cost is $100 per person ($80 conc) and this covers all accommodation, food and activities. Participants will have to organise their own travel to and from the island. For further information or to express an interest in attending call Nick or Kevin at QAHC’s Nth Qld office (4041 5451) or email nconnor@qahc.org.au.

Please email us if you know of any other upcoming events that may be of interest to the local LGBT community: mail@gaytownsville.com.au

What is PEP?

PEP stands for post-exposure prophylaxis (prevention of illness after exposure has taken place). It is a course of HIV medication which is taken for one month and may prevent HIV taking hold in your system if you have been exposed to it. It must be taken as soon as possible and definately within 72 hours of exposure.

If you have had unsafe sex (fucking without condoms, or a condom breaking while fucking) go to the emergency department of Townsville Tertiary Hospital and tell the triage nurse that you want to talk to a doctor about PEP. Stress that the situation is a medical emergency as it is vital to commence treatment as soon as possible. During working hours you can also access PEP through Townsville  Sexual Health Clinic 4778 9600, where the staff are familiar with PEP.
